Heritage of Joy

For Lisa

If I die, survive me with such sheer force
that you waken the furies of the pallid and the cold,
from south to south lift your indelible eyes,
from sun to sun dream through your singing mouth.
I don't want your laughter or your steps to waver,
I don't want my heritage of joy to die.

Pillow Talk

Lying in bed in early dawn, still a little sleepy, discussing the day ahead and things needing to be done.......

Me: yes, I'll get that done today...

Him: Before it's too late--gotta be prudent

Me: Oh yes, 'cause it's the end of the month and everything

Him: Tomorrow, tomorrow is the end of the month....

Me: Oh right....

Him: *chuckling* Tomorrow's the 28th....there are 28 days in December, Einstein.....

Me: December? BUWHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Gigglefit, snort, gigglefit, catching breath, giggling, wiping away tears....

Him: You should totally blog this!

Yes, babies--this is what it's like to be two dorks in love.

June In Kentucky Just Got Hotter

Ah Kentucky....

The horse farms are beautiful

The Bourbon is wonderful

The Manor is Blissful

And everything will be hotter the weekend of June 13th, 2009...

That's right----Dutchy is coming to Kentucky for Confab, Baby!!!! I'm so excited I think I just piddled a little.

There's only one negative thing I can think of in relation to this spectacular development----Dutchy coming here means I now have almost no chance of getting Brad on a plane to Europe*grin*

A Single Moon Drop In The Grass

Denys: You've ruined it for me, you know.
Karen Blixen: Ruined what?
Denys: Being alone.
Out of Africa--1985

I used to adore being alone.

Now I find myself waiting for the sound of the garage door to open signaling that he's home.

It used to be that I'd while away my solitude never marking time, never watching the clock except for what used to be the sad and oh too quick end of my solo reveries.

Now I am counting 'sleeps' and thrilling each time the chime of my phone signals a text telling me I am loved and that he misses me the way that I miss him.

Three more sleeps.

Sigh.

Something To Do With Food

Hey y'all

I've been toying with the idea of setting up a space for just doing recipes, reviews and photographs of food.

I'd like to be able to help folks easily be able to take this

and correctly combine it with this

so that you have this luscious batter

that results in Molten Chocolate Winter Spice Cakes---(this was our dessert on Christmas Eve)

I also want to post simple things that I throw together---sometimes just seeing an idea can spark a delicious surprise. This sandwich was inspired by a yummy sandwich photo Poppy posted. It's bacon and White Stilton with crystalized mango and ginger on toasted pugliese bread with real mayo--heavenly. I had all of the ingredients but didn't think to put them together until seeing Poppy's sammie.

I also want to post about new food finds and how to use new ingredients in simple ways. For instance our Kroger just started carrying ground Bison. If you've never had it I highly recommend you find some and give it a try. The meat is lean and oh so flavorful. I gave it a couple of shakes of Worcestershire and a little dried thyme per the suggestions on the package--it really didn't need anything though.

I seared the patties then finished them in the oven. The steak fries are simply russet potatoes sliced up then thrown into a bowl with a couple of tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and tossed to coat. Heat the heavy cookie sheet and then lay the fries down in a single layer. Let that go for about 15 minutes at 400 then turn them. Cook about 10 minutes more.

So if I decide to take the food to one specific place I'll let you know. Otherwise you'll keep seeing the yummy right here. Being the foodie that I am it's just not possible to remove that part of me --and why would I want to;-)

After The Ball Was Over

Hey y'all

A couple of months ago I posted a video I took of the bowling ball sign on fire at the Southland Collins Bowling Center where we karaoke. You can see the video here. I was a little silly;-)

Despite promises of of repair the ball remains in its damaged state---it's weeping some sort of insulation (probably asbestos laden).

It's very surreal to see it this way.

It would be a sad thing to have them tear it down.

I hope y'all are are having a lovely weekend. I'm dorkily excited because NASCAR starts tonight! We'll have to watch the last bit at karaoke but that's cool. We are taking the camera to take more video. Stay tuned.
