If You Are Gonna Do It Might As Well Do It Big

Giggling cause I am such a dork! I saw this on Facebook at the fanpage for Cakewrecks.blogspot.com. It did cause us to ponder what that much black food coloring might do to ...well....you know;-)

Say What?

Hey y'all

It's interview time again. This meme has been wending it's way around but is always enjoyable for the new takes on it from new people. Adam started it up again but whilst waiting for him to get to my five questions I've been presented with five interesting ones from Grant, slightly twisted lover of all things Japanese hottie-ish.

“The only rules are that you have to link back to the original post and you have to put these rules in your post:

Want to be part of it? Follow these instructions:
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.”

What is one mistake you think your parents made while raising you that you don’t want to repeat with your own children?

You do realize I have dogs, right?

What’s with all the blogs?

I have two permission only blogs--one for writing and one for photography. I want to be creative and not worried about who might snag something I have made so those things go on the permission only blogs.

The others are just there---because I could.

Answering with an imbedded image, who is the hottest Asian woman on the planet? (hint: if you're stuck, google "Ebi-chan")

(pictured with the Ebi Filet O Shrimp 'burger' sold in Japanese McDonald's)

"If someone doesn't find me cute, I want to know why, because then I'll work on it to get better at being cute"

What is your favorite food to have smeared all over and then licked off your body? (if you haven’t done this, have hubs start simple with things like soy sauce or peanut butter and then work your way up to crème brûlée)

Hmmm I don't really care --I guess the person doing the licking would---as long as it smells lovely, feels luscious and won't permanently stain anything.

Stormtrooper vs. red-shirted ensign: who would win in a fight and why? (note – St. Peter often asks this at the pearly gates, so I suggest you do your research now)

This made me giggle --both at the fact that I am SUCH a dork I knew precisely what you meant AND by the fact that when I googled it I found this!

See---that's easy and fun--thank you Grant. If you want me to interview you just leave a request in the comments.

Crazy Is A Relative Thing....

...especially at Christmas*giggling*

Hey y'all

I thought I'd put up a little visual treat for you to peruse as you take a break from the festivities and enjoy your third cup of *cough* coffee *cough*

Our lovely tree, underneath which is a little bit of crazy ;-)

The nice traditional mantel in the study--I decided to be very understated with it this year.

In part because just off to the side is a little more 'Christmas Crazy'...The Jimmie Tree!

Brad bought me a bunch of Jimmie Johnson ornaments to go with the few things I already had. We decided the collection deserved it's own tree and place of honor in the stidy where we could watch the fiber optics swirl colors across the ceiling.

And as promised before---views from outside of the house showing both the traditional ....

and a little bit of the crazy;-)

Each year I go more than a little crazy making The Nuts. This pic is from the 'first round' of nutmaking. This year I cooked about 24 pounds of them. It still wasn't enough.

And finally THANK YOU to all you sweet folks who sent us cards-both the ecards and the ones we've displayed here--you are lovely.

Christmas Crazy!

Hey y'all

The exquisitely lovely HelloHaHaNarf has turned me on to TheBurghBaby and her Christmas Crazy for this year. You can go here and check out other folks little bits of Christmas fun and excess.

I have some new Christmas Crazy this year. I've been decorating in a pretty traditional manner for quite a while now, as you can see.

But we've added some 'freak flags' to the decor...........

This is 'The Master' dressed up in his holiday best. He is lit up at night and I'll get a pic and post that.

If you want to join in just add your site to the linky.

Snow Day!

I have, on average, a twenty five minute commute from a suburb on the South side of town to my office downtown. Brad has a fifty minute commute South that is mostly on I-75.

So guess who is at home taking a snow day today? ME

Why you say? Because Lexington cannot for the life of it get a handle on making the roads and sidewalks 'safe' during the snowy icy messy winter.

I am an excellent driver, even in this sort of mess and Belle is a sure footed beast but it's a sucker bet to put one's self out and about amongst the crazies here if you don't have to do it.

So I brought files home yesterday and will work from the house. And cook supper in the crock pot because more nuts will be fried. And snuggle with the babies. And shovel snow. And make Christmas cookies. And at some point build a fire and turn on the lights on the tree early.

And I will count the minutes until Brad is safely home.

Swine Pasta

Hey y'all

I know that title may sound odd but I do have a recipe for you. Technically it's a version( I cheated and used cream instead of egg) of linguine carbonara but around here we get 'creative' with things and it will forever be known as 'Swine Pasta' . I hope you are giggling cause I sure am.

You can make this with pretty much any type of pasta (I doubt angel hair would work well but in a pinch--why not). Linguine is my favorite 'long' pasta and is perfect for this.

As always my measurements are approximate---this makes enough for a nice satisfying supper for two. It's one of my favorite 'pantry' suppers because it's simple, quick and I always have the ingredients.

Boil about one third of a 16 oz package of linguine in salted water. Add about 1/2 cup of frozen peas to the pasta just as the water comes back to a boil after adding the pasta. Cook to just al dente.

Slice about 6 to 8 strips of bacon into one inch pieces. Saute the bacon in a chef's pan over medium low heat until crisp. Add about 1/2 cup or so of heavy whipping cream and scrape the pan as it reduces a bit. Add the well drained pasta and peas along with a generous amount of grated Parmesan cheese (NOT the green can stuff--come on people;-)) and some freshly ground black pepper. Stir to coat the pasta and serve immediately. Top with some additional cheese.

Brad raved about this dish and gave it it's official new moniker--but you already knew that*grin*

And dessert? Dessert was amazing*giggle*

Goodness Gracious Great Ball o' Fire!

We karaoke at the bowling alley most Friday nights. It's kitschy with a some interesting 50's architecture including a very large 'bowling ball' sign out front.

A few weeks ago that sucker caught on fire and being the well lubricated souls that we were we went onto the smoker's patio to watch and film it instead of leaving....(ignore the yakety ass on the audio)

video

Brad was on stage singing during this little interlude. I went back in and was called up to sing. I was up on stage when the firemen got there and evacuated the building. It was a crap job on the song anyway*grin*

Only the ball sustained damage and they say they will fix it because it's "a Lexington icon"*giggle*

We'll go sing tonight and see if they have done any work toward the repair.

I'll be catching on blogs and comments this weekend in between decorating like a woman possessed. It's going more slowly because I have to figure out what goes where and what we need to buy for the new house. It's been fun so far.

It's That Time Of Year...

..when the world falls in love". I can hear Karen Carpenter singing that Christmas song in three quarter time and it makes me smile because I am enjoying this holiday season so much. I want to give each moment a squeeze before moving on to the next.

I'm in full on dork-in-love mode today so you might want to bail out now;-)

We got our first tree on Saturday. It's just perfect. I am a tree 'hunter' and very picky and Brad was quite patient and supportive. It was so nice not to feel like I was on the Bataan Death March in doing this seasonal trek.

It didn't take long to find this one though. And even though we had never measured the ceilings on the first floor(they are 9 feet--I just measured)) this tree fits with just a whisper to spare. I had the clippers handy but didn't need them.

As you may know decorating the tree is a long process for me so tonight it's lights and the star then finishing up over the next couple of days. You know there will be pics;-)

The house smells lovely.

And yesterday we had a long, languorous day -- doing little things and just enjoying being together. It was one of those Sundays that seemed to go on forever in the best way. I made a hearty soup (turkey of course) and we had a cozy fire to keep us toasty. The babies came back to stay with us for the week and we all snuggled to sweet dreams in the big bed.

The only thing that could have made it better was for us to wake to a foot of snow this morning so that we could be snowed in for a couple of days.

I am tackling this blustery Monday with a big smile.
