Clearly, This is F'd Up

Hey y'all

Yesterday I asked Britt what she and Adam would be discussing on their radio show "Clearly, You're Retarded" tonight at 9 PM ET. She responded "pornography and whether it objectifies women. " I laughed and said well that ought to fit well with my post on 'secondary virginity.'

WTF? you say? Doesn't one lose one's virginity one time and one time only? Isn't that the very definition of virginity? The state of being pure, unsullied, or untouched is gone baby gone once you have been sullied and touched.

Or so I thought.

This guy apparently thinks otherwise. And of course since he's all of about 26 years old he knows everything. Please click on his bio and read what he has to say about women and tell me that he is not objectifying them.

Because to me he is.
" Whether you are married, single, in high school, college, or graduate school, or in a dating or engaged relationship I invite you to read this text and find out what you can become. It is never too late to start over, and more importantly it is never too late to regain who you are so it may be given to the man who deserves it the most, your future husband. "

The whole madonna/whore thing objectifies women. And that is what is at work in this 'secondary virginity' claptrap.

I'm not saying making a choice to abstain from sex once you've had it is a bad thing. But be real and honest about why--- with yourself and those you may be with in the future.

You are more than your 'virginity'.

And if you really want an educated discussion about female/male sexuality in our culture I highly encourage you to read RealAdultSex. Incredibly well written and insightful posts await.

Be sure to tune in to hear Adam and Britt go at it--oh wait*giggling*

And don't miss my interview with the MidLife Gals on TurnbabyTalks this Sunday at 8 PM ET on BlogTalkRadio. The self proclaimed "Queens of Austin" are fired up and ready to go!

People Who Need People?

Hey y'all

I received this missive in the mail at my office. You really need to click it and read it because paraphrasing just won't do.....

So now I'm all excited because I've obviously found what's been missing in my life. Riiiiiiiight.

I had a great time doing TurnbabyTalks last night. If you missed it you missed lots of little secrets about yours truly;-)--- oh and LOTS of giggling;-)

We had a great sports day in the house yesterday with the Red Sox beating the Yankees and Jimmie Johnson winning at the Brickyard. We've spent so much money at Lowe's lately I feel like we ought to have our names somewhere on the car.

I've Got A Secret

Hey y'all

Tonight at 8 PM ET on TurnbabyTalks on BlogTalkRadio we'll talk about secrets---what they are ---what they mean to you---who you share them with---what happens when you share them.

I am fascinated by PostSecret---it was one of the first pages I bookmarked. Sometimes the reactions to the secrets shared there are as interesting as the secrets themselves.

Simply click that lovely button at the top of this post to go directly to the show. There's live chat---be sure to register so everyone can see who they are having fun with---and you can call in and spill the beans or just talk about secrets in general by dialing 646-716-8102.

If you can't make it live you can always listen to the show in archives by clicking the player in my sidebar.

See you there.

Fun In The Lion's Den

Hey y'all

It's the middle of county fair season here

And while Fayette County does not have a 'county fair' per se, we do have the
Lion's Club Bluegrass Fair.

Bwana Jim

Especially for Adam----Fried Everything

This used to be quite the rowdy affair--hence the friendly 'patrols'

But as thisis the strongest thing they serve in the way of libations here this is about as rowdy as things get.

We took in the sights on the midway

Playing ring toss

cinnimon?

Do they really think they will find the next big thing here???

Breaking bottles

We worked up quite the appetite so we headed for 'taqueria row'.

At the food window

Putting on the brave face Brad prepares to tuck into some luscious food

I think this more accurately depicts what was going through his head;-)

Tacos al Pastor--heaven

If you've never had tacos al pastor find a good taqueria and you are in for a treat.

Thinking we left just in time
and this sealed the deal;-)

Everyone Is Everyone

Hey y'all

Last night we went to see Steve Earle and Allison Moorer live at the beautiful Kentucky Theater. It was an excellent concert with both performers in fine voice and we had great seats. I didn't take my camera but snagged this off YouTube for y'all.

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing them interact and make music together. It was a lovely night.

Tonight at 9 PM ET Adam and Britt will once again try to prove who's more whack when they take on the topic of abortion on Clearly You're Retarded. You may want to put your crystal glassware in another room;-)

Stray Bullets II

Hey y'all

Time is not on my side these days--well at least time to sit and pound out something profound or profane. So it's bullets for you!

  • Thanks so much to Fabby for being my very special and well fabulous guest last night on TurnbabyTalks on BlogTalkRadio. Who knew Ben Vereen had gotten so busy? Thanks also to Cissa, Britt, Heather and Soda for playing and participating! Congrats to Miss Britt for winning trivia. And as always thank you to my listeners.

  • I'm still infatuated with Mob Wars. Both of my Mob chicks are kicking ass and taking names. I know ;-)

  • There is almost nothing as good as eating corn that was picked just a few hours before--why I adore the Farmer's Market. I cooked a bi-color variety named Ambrosia two different ways to rave reviews. Method one---use foil to make a packet and fill with a few pats of butter, sliced Vidalia or candy onions and place shucked ears of corn on top of the onions---close packet and place on the grill over medium heat for about 15 minutes. Method two----slice kernels off the cob and saute over medium heat in butter with a little sea salt until just cooked---about 5-6 minutes depending on how much you are cooking. If you need real specific directions email me.

  • The House is almost put together. Saturday we bought the fridge of our dreams-- *raises hand--yes --I am Turnbaby and I am proud to be a dork and in love with a dork*-- Sunday we bought kick ass patio furniture cause they promised to finish the deck within the next two weeks!

  • An opportunity has come to light and I'm damn excited about the possibilities--stay tuned.

I had a post--carefully thought out---corralling so much.

I'd even talked it through--but I held back writing it.

Then we watched Hairspray---snuggled in the yummy bed with the Babies.

It seemed a much better silly happy end to a wonderfully silly happy and passionate day.

And the rock softened and the knotted oak bent.....

My Huckleberry Friend

Hey y'all

I was at a conference in Louisville earlier this year and stayed on the 9th floor of the Galt House .(and experienced an earthquake)

I took these pics of the falls of the Ohio River from my room which had a wall of windows with this fabulous view.

And being me I immediately hear this song when I look at them. I love the lyrics and beautiful melody. While the Andy Williams version of this Johnny Mercer/Henry Mancini song is a classic I love the fragile beauty of Audrey Hepburn's version from Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The Earth Sings When He Touches It

Hey y'all

We spent some fun evenings last week at the horse show. I took over 200 pics. Don't worry---I'm only sharing some.

This is the famous "round barn" at the Red Mile.

The light was perfect to take shots from this angle--this three gaited pony kept catching my eye as well as the judges'. She won her class.

This gelding looked like he was so much fun to ride.

Yes---our box is right on the inner rail and these lovely creatures often stopped right in front of us.

This shot made me remember Shakespeare's words (the title quote).

He's just so full of life but perfectly under control.

I just love how bold this horse looks.

I love his vibrance here.

Simply lovely.
I have a couple of videos I'll put up another time. One of my favorite things happened at this show--a person who had never been to a show or seen these types of horses saw a really good one and 'got it'. That made my heart sing.

What A Girl Wants

Hey y'all

"What women want" is the topic this evening at 8 PM ET on TurnbabyTalks on BlogTalkRadio.

The show is FEATURED on the home page today but NO ONE will know it's MY show until they actually click the generic "relationships' button they have on the scroll. WHY, you ask? Because the person responsible for putting up the features has once again chosen something other than my 'logo' to use when my show is featured. This chaps my ass considering Alan Levy, the CEO of BlogTalkRadio, mentioned ON AIR that it's eye catching.I've used it consistently for a year. I don't get it. *sigh*

Anyway babies we'll be talking about what women want---really and truly instead of what you may have seen on some stupid TV show or on the cover of Cosmo. I don't have a special guest for today so everyone is welcome to join in the discussion. Which you can do by clicking that ever so lovely button at the top of this page. Be sure to register so we'll know who you are in the live chat. You can CALL IN at 646-716-8102 and add your voice to the mix.

If you can't listen live you can alway hear all of my archived shows by clicking the player in my sidebar.

It's Simple, Really

Hey y'all

I'm quite fond of Savannah GA. I, like so many people, was fascinated with the tale so captivatingly told by John Berendt in Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil. His 1994 best seller recounting the murder trials of Jim Williams made me want to walk the squares and soak up her history and atmosphere. I got a little taste in 2006.

This is the fountain in Forsyth Park.

And here I am in front of the Mercer-Williams House.

I also became very fascinated with the famous "Savannah Bird Girl"--the statue made famous by the cover art of the book.

If you've read this blog for any period of time you've seen my photos of cemetery sculptures. When I saw they were making replicas of the 'Bird Girl' I always wanted to have one but I never got to--for a variety of reasons. When I walked into the backyard of The House I pictured just where she would go. I mentioned this when I was talking about seeing Savannah earlier this year.

But imagine my surprise when I heard a knock on the door early Tuesday morning and was handed this package by the delivery guy.

I hadn't ordered anything. When he said it was a statue my mouth flew open. I knew exactly what it was as soon as he said that.

She almost looks like an angel wrapped up like this.

And suddenly there she was....

I had to redo my mascara.

She's sitting in the kitchen still. I've been joking about letting her stay in the house and using her to hold libations *grin*

My point here is this.....

The simple truth is that showing that you pay attention to your partner's wants and needs and dreams and desires is such a wonderful thing. And it doesn't matter what they are because it is not about things or possessions.

It's about caring enough to know.

Clearly, They've Got Issues

Hey y'all

I'm late posting but I didn't want to miss pimping the inaugural radio show from Adam and Miss Britt!

Clearly, You're Retarded begins tonight at 9 PM ET. It figures to be a great 'point-counterpoint' style of show. ust click the link and you'll be there. Be sure to register so you can play in the chat.

The topic tonight is political correctness. I'm supposed to be out at the horse show tonight but I am going to try and be home in time.

I've always thought Britt would be brilliant with her own show. She has been great every time she's called in to TurnbabyTalks on BlogTalkRadio.

Adam poo poo'd the idea of a show rather loudly in a post(that I don't have time to find;-)) but I'm glad he's seen the light.

I just hope he's wearing a cup the first time he says "Britt you ignorant slut"

If you don't get that joke.....sigh.

Beer In The Streets!

Hey y'all

Lexington's Fourth of July Festival is very fun and one of the highlights of the summer. A few pics for you.....

Well they have to get the bellies some way.

I have a feeling she may be a frustrated belly dancer.

I am wondering if this woman...
.... found these hats...or if she wanted one of these---the cock fighting one is nice...or if she went for the gusto...

I couldn't believe the signbut more interesting was the fact that every worker and most of the folks in line were Mexican.

I didn't realize just how bad prices had gotten (see item number 2 on the menu)

I can't resist a cutie face.

In search of really good beer...we adjourn to the fabulous authentic Irish pub known as McCarthy's...where they sell Guiness and Harp and Taytos(a big WOOOOOOO for my Soul Patrol peeps;-)

Wandering out just as the parade is winding down ...I spot a rare crested drape ape

Look at this face and then say it with me.....Awwwwwww.

All this was followed by a silly trip to the grocery, more beer, laughs, an attack by a crazy fucking cat, yummy food with friends and finally a snuggly sleep. Yum.

Stray Bullets

Hey y'all

So much to say and so little time.....

  • I want to thank everyone who listened to and participated in the show last night and in particular my Special Guest Anndi and callers Britt and Katherine. You made the show a pleasure to do.

  • We had a great time at Lexington's annual 4th of July Festival or as I call it the 'let's drink beer in the streets' fest. The weather cooperated and I've got some funny pictures that I'll get up later. It's a prime 'people watching' event and of course I love to share.

  • I am all SQUEEEE cause one of my favorite vendors was back selling these amazingly beautiful silk and cotton scarves from South America.

  • I am all about Mob Wars on Facebook.

  • I am so all about Mob Wars on Facebook that when my primary Mobster, Miss Molly Malone got busted during a stupid liquor store robbery on Thursday night and put in jail for *gasp* nine hours(!) I created a second Mobster to play with in the interim.--sleeker, sophisticated, stealthy---Charlotte Vale. Yeah--I know;-)

  • We are utterly in love the MostAwesome.Bed.Ever. After they delivered it Saturday and we got it all dressed out I laid across is just for a "little bit". I woke up 45 minutes later refreshed and literally wallowing in the awesomeness of it. I'll have pictures up, maybe the HNT*wicked grin*

I hope y'all are having a great day. The Lexington Junior League Horse Show starts tonight--I can't wait to experience it with 'new' eyes.

The Heart of the Matter

Love is an act of endless forgiveness. - Peter Ustinov

Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it. - Mark Twain

Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them so much. - Oscar Wilde

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. - Mahatma Gandhi

We read that we ought to forgive our enemies; but we do not read that we ought to forgive our friends.--Sir Francis Bacon

Hey y'all

Tonight at 8 PM on TurnbabyTalks on BlogTalkRadio I'll be joined by my sweet friend Anndi aka Angelbaby. She's one of my Hoochie sisters and part of the foursome (with Bond, Trav and Dixie)that have been my rock over the two and a half years I've known them. We came together over our admiration of Taylor Hicks banded together as part of the Soul Patrol but we've stayed together out of our love and affection for each other.

And one of the reasons we remain in this close circle of friends is that we've found within ourselves the capacity to forgive. We've all had challenges that could have broken us had we not been able to do that.

So tonight at 8 PM ET you can call in at 646-716-8102 and join Ann and me as we discuss forgiveness. You can also participate in the live chat--a simple click on the lovely button at the top of this post will get you there. If you can't listen live the archived shows are always available in the player in my sidebar.

Everyone is welcome to add to the conversation so I hope to see a lot of you there.

Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness

Hey y'all

We've tarted up The House in a wreath of festive flags and noshed on some yummy comfort food and made our dish for today's brunch prelude to the parade and other July 4th downtown festivities.

I had something else in draft--ready to post --and I pulled it.

I will say that the irony of the fact that it was 'George' figurehead then and it's a 'George' figurehead now is not at all lost on me.

That being said---my head and my heart lead me to remember a brighter and more positive outlook on why they fought and sacrificed--all those brave souls over all of the years this country has been in existence.

It's not at all frivolous to remember that happiness---pure simple happiness--is written into the Declaration as one of the inalienable rights we share as citizens of The United States of America. We need to be reminded of that --often.

So I choose to be happy and share my happiness with you. That my babies includes my dorky love of the musical 1776 and the beautiful love story portrayed amidst the birth of our country between John and Abigail Adams.

Happy smooches and gropes babies!

Pride And Prejudice

Hey y'all

Saturday was pretty eventful here.

I know there were GLBT Pride events around the world but for the first time in the more than twenty years of having a Lexington Pride event-- it was held downtown.

It had been held on private farms in the past due to fear. Fear of persecution and protest. Fear of being able to just be yourself. I find that so chilling and so wrong.

It was a lively event featuring "Pride Idol", music, lots of food, booths to register to vote, fun things, educational materials and businesses noting their support of GLBT issues, such as same sex marriage. The crowd --and I do mean crowd--was fun and diverse and happy to be there. We wandered among the booths and watched the show and sipped cold beer and just reveled in the festive atmosphere.

In addition to the GLBT Pride Festival Lexington also hosted a "Diversity Festival". The events were held about two blocks apart. The Diversity Festival featured foods, crafts, music and dance of the multitude of cultures populating central Kentucky.

We enjoyed both events very much, making the easy stroll from one to the other and watching others do the same. It was pretty cool actually, seeing entire families enjoying both.

The prejudiced and fearful of course had to make their show of objection. In this particular case it was some Catholic group. I say this because they were led by a man carrying a cross and second in the meager line of about 15 people was a priest wearing a cassock and most of them were obviously praying the rosary. And the guy at the tail end--he was carrying the American flag--nice.

The great part is this--most people at the Event didn't even know there were protesters. The newspaper didn't mention it in their coverage the next day. They made a couple of circuits around the perimeter of the event in the hot sun and then they were gone. No one mentioned them, no one spoke to them. They were ignored.

The rest of us ---we laughed and loved and shared a summer day.

It was a lovely time.
