House & Home Haiku

Hey y'all

The House is on her way to being sorted--more pics to follow.

No matter the mess and chaos right now in the physical aspects of this house I feel I am home--more than I have ever been. What is it they say--something like 'a house is made of bricks and beams and a home is made of love and dreams'? Yeah --I think that's right.

I'm in the mood for some haiku on the topics so I thought I'd share.

And in case you've not done haiku in a while here's a quick primer-----

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry. You have three lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Within those 17 syllables the idea is to paint a clear picture designed to arouse a distinct emotion and suggest spiritual insight-------

I'll do a few ---you leave yours in the comments or email and I'll post the collected effort later. You can see examples of Hot Haiku, Heartfelt Haiku and Haunting Haiku by clicking the links.

So here we go.....

All manner of bliss
lives in this house, this bliss house;
dub her Bliss Manor

I walk through the door
and am in the house; I walk
to you and am home

Laughing, loving, life
brings warmth and joy to the bones
of this our abode

Buying a house with
no special place for the shoes?
That's just crazy talk.

The last one makes me giggle. Have at it babies!

This Sunday at 8 PM ET on TurnbabyTalks on BlogTalkRadio I'll be Talking Food with Bond. Please join Doc Blogstein's Radio Happy Hour regular VinnyBond as he drags his BigLeatherCouch in to talk about food, cooking, foodies and some QuidProQuo. And yes--you will be allowed to play with your food here;-)

Holey Crap!

Hey y'all

What a way to start the week---

They began the foundation repair yesterday morning ---digging down to put 'piers' under the wall between the garage and the house to correct a problem the previous owners neglected over a period of years. There will also be steel plates and steel bars and more steel plates in the back.

Not too scary ---just a bunch of plastic covering mounds of broken up concrete, rock and dirt.

THIS is a little scary;-)---this is just to the left of the garage ---it's about 12 feet deep.

The basement shrouded in plastic and superfine grit from where they are jackhammering concrete and rock in the basement. Look closely and you'll see that they left 'The Master', zombies and army men uncovered---the horror! ( Can you just imagine what the work crew thought of that little tableau?*giggling*)

It's just freaky seeing these heaps of rubble and big holes--hoping it doesn't rain as that sort of rounded shape in the bottom left corner is my sump pump basin.

These are just started---they were back jackhammering away first thing this morning. I'm told that after a few hours it just becomes 'background noise'. Oh my.

The good news is that we didn't have to have the water heater taken out for the duration. That would have really sucked--and not in the good way.

For Dawg--In Memoriam

Hey y'all

This post is dedicated to the memory of NYCWatchdog's son, the Puppy Monster.

Today, June 21, marks the one year anniversary of the tragic loss of this vibrant life.

He was five years old and it is very clear through every video he ever posted with him and so many posts since that Dawg loves his baby boy.

I hope Dawg has a start at finding some peace.

I know he has a sweet and wonderful woman who will soon be by his side to help in all ways.

Please ---if you do nothing else today---hug the ones you love and hold them close and tell them--tell them "I love you".

I think that would be the best tribute to the Puppy Monster that Dawg could ever want.

Sweet smooches and hugs babies.
P.S. Thank you Adam

Show A Little Faith

Hey ya'll

It's Friday--YAY!

I've done some digging and found a video of one of my all time favorite songs(yeah I used to write out the lyrics when I was bored in class-Oh you know you did too ;-))And just for the record--I had no clue I was gonna post this song until about 12:15 am.

And then about 12:17 I realized, looking through YouTube that The Boss did it for the Tim Russert Memorial.

I'm still putting this up. This video is early and raw and I ADORE it! It captures at least a fraction of how powerful his live performances are. And his music --so much music--means more than I can say.

My god it made me tingle to watch...

And because it's one of my favorite Springsteen songs...

I'll Still be Standing Here

Hey y'all

I made it back to Lexington last evening---the girls snuggled me.

I want to thank everyone for your kind words---they mean so much.

I find it impossible to describe how I feel.

So I'll share a funny thing that happened yesterday.

I generally stop at McDonald's when I'm on the road--especially when on the road alone.

So on one of my stops yesterday I went racing for the restrooms--I think I had about two gallons of sweet tea yesterday.

I saw them at the back--one door across from the other as you will normally find. I looked very hard at the symbols for 'male' and 'female' to make sure I was going in the correct one.

Why did I feel the need to "look hard" you ask?

Well many moons ago I was all zombied out from Christmas shopping and rushed into a restroom in a Carolina Pottery store. I was ALL the way past the line of abut TEN urinals on the wall before I even thought--"oh my--urinals--is this a unisex bathroom?"

I froze for a second then FLEW out of there. Luckily no one was coming in and I went across to the women's and all was fine.

So I LOOK now.

Back to McDonald's and yesterday......

I push open the WOMEN"S room door and standing there ---about 2 feet away-- is a person who looks so much like a man that I know I blinked. And she was staring at me like I had two heads. My first impulse was OMG-I've done it again--and I wanted SO much to step back and make sure it was the "women's" but I couldn't! She would know exactly what my thought had been if I did that so I just took a deep breath and went on in anyway.

It was the women's room and I did my business.

I decided I didn't really need anymore sweet tea.

Country Comfort

Hey y'all

I'm traveling a long and winding road back to Lexington today.

I'll drop off the rental at the airport and my assistant will leave Belle in short term parking so I won't have to trouble anyone--since I don't know exactly when I'll get there-- or take a cab.

Then I'll go straight to get the Babies.

I don't think I could manage going into the house alone.

They'll give me doggie kisses and pure joy and love and they'll snuggle with me and I'll listen to them snore.

Sounds pretty good to me right now.

Kindness

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
Aesop

Hey y'all

I find myself in a very unusual predicament---I have a platform and so much to say. I know there's 'blood in the water' but I don't feel that I need to be chumming nor do I condone it--despite the fact that some are reveling in it still.

I often hear it said that the world is a cruel place and that people in general are less concerned for their fellow human beings. I have to disagree.

I know that what has kept me going has been kindness------the kindness of friends and strangers. I'm touched beyond words at the acts of kindness I've received.

It may seem a small thing to write out directions or to adjust a vacation booking or to just ask if some stranger you see is emotionally distraught is okay.

Small things--but every one was appreciated immeasurably.

There have been some horrible things said to me as well but I will not allow them to hurt me anymore.

Instead I'll focus on the kindness....of strangers who asked after me and emailed me to say I hope you are okay.

And my friends---I cannot ever repay the love and support you have shown me. I am ever so humbly indebted to you.

A Little Bulletin Is A Good Thing

Hey y'all

Lots of ground to cover and not much time to do it so bullets away!

  • Turns out that the 'pressure release valve' was what was leaking on our water heater. I went down and fiddled with it last night and got sprayed with water--joy-- but at least discovered where the leak was. That's a whole heck of a lot cheaper than replacing the whole thing.

  • During my late and somewhat frantic attempt to get packed last night one of my sisters called to beat a dead horse(yes MM) I put her on speaker a couple of times so I could keep going.

  • I didn't finish packing until this morning. We left a full hour and a half after our original start time. Fabby was so sweet and patient about it. We got breakfast at McDonald's and were on the highway at 8 AM and arrived at our destination for tonight in ten hours. Pretty darn good if I do say so myself.

  • I have to give major kudos to Jules (Fabby's Hyundai Sonata). I haven't driven a stick in about 20 years so I was a little concerned. We took a test spin and I got the feel of it pretty quickly. it gets great gas mileage and feels very solid on the highway.

  • XM radio RAWKS! I've never had it as I just never felt I drove enough to really justify it. We listened to the comedy stations for a good bit of the second part of the drive today and it was great.

  • It's amazing how truly freeing it is being accepted for who you are by someone who actually knows you and loves you.

Nothing Like the Last Minute

Hey y'all

It's been a very busy day ---not the least of which is come home at 7 PM and find your water heater is leaking---and I'm squeaking in with a lame ass excuse for a post to say it.

More details to follow--it's VACATION babies!

We are getting luscious thunderstorms and I thought weather so........

More in a bit---Fabby's sleeping cause he's driving the first shift. I'm packing and sweaty and needing a shower.

Talking Sex

Hey y'all

Tonight at 8 PM on TurnbabyTalks on BlogTalkRadio we'll be talking about "Who made these rules?" The rules I am talking about are the ones we are "supposed" to follow to have 'successful" relationships and are on prominent display as plot points in Sex and The City: The Movie.

I went to see it Tuesday with some like minded girlfriends and, while we had a good time, it was a bit disappointing to me. Huge events happen ---I am sooooo not trying to 'spoil' this for a couple of friends who haven't seen it---and the catalyst for them seems to be driven by the 'rules' that someone somewhere 'made' for relationships. UGH.

You can hear me expound profound about this tonight at 8 PM by clicking that lovely button at the top of this page. You can call in with your own comments by dialing 646-716-8102. Be sure to register as a listener if you haven't already so that we'll know who is having fun in the live chat.

If you can't listen live all the shows archive and you can hear them by clicking that player in my sidebar OR by having my show set to go into your iTunes.

At 7 PM on BTR Mr Fabulous will be getting all catty with Katie from Kat Scratch Fever. At 5 PM SecondhandRadio features the ebulient HelloHaHaNarf! And rounding out the RadioRockBlock at 6 PM is Hilly on SnackieRadio featuring Shelli(Google her!).

It's a great way to beat the heat!

Let It Begin With Me

This is the 4th Blogblast for Peace in which I've participated.

The Peace Globe movement born of one Miss Pencil Skirt herself, Mimi Lenox, was really my gateway into the larger world of blogging outside of my initial group of friends. That foray in the fall of 2006 has meant the world to me personally.

On Christmas Eve 2006 I posted globes for me, for the Soul Patrol and for my sister Laura.

On June 6, 2007 I posted my Peace Globe. And on November 7, 2007 I posted the wonderful Peace Globe featuring The Babies that sweet Sanni made for me.

Today I'm posting a blank globe. I just didn't have time to personalize one.

But I think it's important to post them and even more important to talk about why.

That was brought home to me in two very real ways this week.

On Monday I met for more than two hours with a man who did three tours in Iraq. He's 100% disabled due to PTSD. He struggles to get through his days and is living with the horror of war moment to moment. He has visible tics and other signs of a person working to keep his anxieties at bay. He is getting better and proud of the progress he's made. His face lights up when he speaks of his baby boy. He is 36.

On Tuesday my wonderful friend Dixie emailed a picture of her son Matt in his full Marine gear. He survived boot camp last fall and is progressing through his training and growing up. he just graduated high school last spring. She's a very proud mama but the picture touched her because he looks so 'old' in it. He is 18.

I don't want to ever see in his eyes the torment I saw Monday.

So while some may think it a wasted effort I still believe that peace begins with me...and you...and all y'all.

Be sure to visit as many Peace Globes as you can.....I know that Trav, Anndi, Julie, Songbird, Lizza and Vinny are flying them high today. Check the linky for more and be sure to stop by Mimi's and say thank you.

Snuggling at Home

Hey y'all

Since Fabby got the fence and yard all sorted (he's so ANDROME!!) the Babies came over and spent their first night at our new house! The photos are from my Razr (low light = grainy). They eagerly explored every room and then settled in as we worked on the kitchen.

Chloe excitedly awaits the sorting of the spices;-)

Finally upstairs for the night and the girls are yawning in anticipation of a long snooze.

Sleeping angels--I had really missed their sweet little snores.

There's still way too much work going on here so they are back to the ex until the weekend. It was lovely to have puggy kisses again.

I'll Be Your Huckleberry Redux

Hey y'all

One year ago today I took up the challenge thrown down by Mr. Fabulous to try and best him in Stacy's Trivia Challenge at Fun Trivia. You can read where I posted about it here.

That started off with me beating him three months in a row and winning 9 month out of the 12. I've collected a lot of loot ;-)

Fabby and I are going at it again and want you to join us. That sounds a little naughty*giggling*

You can jump in at Stacy's by clicking the link above. And we are also playing in my TurnbabyTalks Trivia Challenge.

It's fun and just takes a minute or so.

Thanks so much to everyone for your well wishes and sweet thoughts on my birthday. I had a GREAT time on both my show and Fabby's show on BlogTalkRadio. Thank you to everyone who listened and called in. This was my Best.Birthday.Ever!

I must send a special shout out to my sweet friend Bond who in addition to his awesome post Friday did a wonderful video. You can find that here. It's just so lovely and I can't thank you enough Vinny. SMOOCH.

And innumberable thanks to my sweet Angelbaby who did the trivia graphic and posted this awesome note --you are truly wonderful and I love you. SMOOCH.

The Best Gift Is You

Hey y'all

Tonight at 8 PM on TurnbabyTalks on BlogTalkRadio Mr. Fabulous will join me for the second part of my birthday celebration. Yes --it's my birthday--one I have in common with another voluptuous blonde --Marilyn Monroe. I don't think anyone will be sewing me into a dress to do the show though.

Fabby and I will be coming to you together and live from The Red Room. In addition to massive amounts of silliness we'll do some birthday QuidProQuo.

You can join in by clicking that lovely button at the top of this post. You can CALL IN at 646-716-8102. You can play along in the always lively chat.As always if you can't make it live the archived shows are available in the player in my sidebar.

Be sure you plan to tune in at 7 PM to hear the start of the festivities as I co-host on Pointless Drivel Live. Mr. Fabulous will give me a crack at his new feature "Dead or Alive". I think there's a prize if I win. But I already have the best.gift.ever. ;-)

The RadioRockBlock on BTR kicks off at 5 PM ET with Secondhand Radio. Karl's guest will be the irrepressible Jester of Jestertunes. Following at 6 PM the luscious Hilly will feature Vahid on Snackie Radio.

It's four hours of radio goodness--what more could you want on a Sunday afternoon in June;-)
