Something To Talk About

Hey y'all

I need something to talk about tonight on my BlogTalkRadio show TurnbabyTalks at 8 PM ET. It's not like I can't think of anything--there are some things that would be very interesting*giggling* I just haven't had time to focus on the show this week. But don't worry babies I'm sure I'll think of something--be sure to tune in--cause with me you just never know.

You can find the show by clicking the lovely button at the top of this post. Once there you can listen to me flounder about live and giggle at me in the ever entertaining chat room. Of course you can always take pity on me and CALL IN at 646-716-8102. If you prefer to torture yourself later you can listen to any past show by clicking the player in my sidebar. If you do that please take a second and give me a rating.

Hopefully Matt-man will have some time to spare from the campaign trail and give us an update.

And be sure to tune in at 7 PM to Mr. Fabulous' show Pointless Drivel Live. Tonight is his one year anniversary show and his co-host is the ever awesome Miss Britt. There will be contests and prizes and I am sure at least one "Wooooo fuck yeah!!!" yelled over the airwaves.

I hope to see y'all later.

I'm Tired

Hey y'all

Not for the same reasons *giggling* but I'll let Miss Lili Von Schtupp entertain you about our common state.

Please be patient--actual content will be returning to this blog very very soon;-)

And in that light--Blazing Saddles is the very first DVD I purchased---it's brilliant snarky humor. If you have not seen it you should.

Manic MOnday Edition No. 35 ---Date

Hey y'all

The Manic Monday theme this week is 'date' and with all eyes focused yesterday on NFL playoffs I couldn't help but think of this date and a little play known as RED RIGHT 88.

January 4, 1981
Cleveland Stadium, Cleveland
AFC Divisional Playoff Game
Oakland (14) over Cleveland (12)

Attendance: 77,655

That attendance figure included one Southern belle wrapped in her grandmother's fur coat and about 5 other layers of clothing one of which was my Kardiac Kids t shirt and this sweatshirt(not this particular one--but it looked just like that)

Official Weather Observations for the Day
High 7 degrees

Low -5 degrees

Snowcover 8 inches

If you asked me I said and will still say--fucking cold!! And it had been cold for some time so the field was very much like pavement.

This was Cleveland Municipal Stadium---that water you see is Lake Erie.

The open end of the stadium--the bleachers--contained what became known as the "Dawg Pound" and YUP that's where I watched this game that featured a -35 degree wind chill because there was this GIANT ice machine known as Lake Erie right behind me.

It was so cold that the beer--that's right I said the BEER got a little crust of ice on it by the time you'd get back to your seat---I did the field research myself ;-)

The Browns had an exciting season in 80--riding last minute wins by the heroics of a team that included the NFL MVP that year --Brian Sipe and the ever awesome Ozzie Newsome----to the playoffs for the first time in 8 years. I went to the game with my first serious boyfriend(later fiance--twice--that's a story for another day ;-)) who was from Cleveland.

It was such a miserable game--missed field goal attempts and one blocked extra point by the Brown's kicker Don Concroft (playing hurt) made suspect the kicking game and left the Browns trailing 14-12 with only a couple of minutes to play.

But we were having a blast. We weren't feeling the cold much--everyone huddled and cheered and I'm sure the beer and the very popular spiked hot chocolate had a little bit to do with it . They were our Brownies--they would do it---they were the team of destiny that year. They'd come from behind for spectacular wins all year.

And as they marched down the field right toward us---we just knew the Kardiac Kids were gonna pull it off. All they needed was 3 points, right?

During the fateful last timeout with the ball on Oakland's 13 and 49 seconds on the clock then Coach Sam Rutigliano has been quoted as saying to Sipe if no one was open "throw the ball in Lake Erie." The pass play ----the now infamous Red Right 88---would have deemed a 'good' call if Ozzie had caught it. But he didn't.

The Raiders Mike Logan intercepted it---right in front of me. And at that moment on that date......January 4, 1981---it was like a cold steel dagger pierced my heart. I don't think I have ever felt colder.

Ah well.

Be sure to visit Mo at the Manic Monday headquarters!

Wasted Youth And A Fistful Of Ideals

Hey y'all

Once again I'm strangely pleased to be joined tonight on my BlogTalkRadio show TurnbabyTalks at 8 PM ET by Matt-Man of Bagwine Ruminations. If you all listened to last week's show you would have heard Matty's enthusiastic endorsement of Mike Huckabee for President. Matty apparently has always had a thing for a man with a large bass. Thankfully the big head started doing the thinking and Matt-Man has declared himself a candidate for President of The United States of America. And he's chosen a fine and uplifting theme song for his campaign.

You can listen to us LIVE at 8 PM by clicking the lovely button at the top of this post. You can CALL IN at 646-716-8102 and talk with the candidate. You can also ask questions in the live chat. If you can't make it live you can always listen to this and any other show by clicking on the player in my sidebar. And when you do please give the show a rating.

It ought to be a great and enlightening time--not that anything profound will happen but we surely will laugh.

And make sure to tune in early tonight---6 :30 PM--- to hear the Duets show with Mr. Fabulous on Pointless Drivel Live. He's supersized the show because he has a bevy of lovely women---including ME---joining him to sing duets. I still don't have mine recorded so we may have to do it live---ooooo that sounds naughty *giggling*

Well I'm off to play with Audacity----it's a computer program I swear ;-)

Uba Tuba

Hey y'all

I can't believe it's been since Monday since I posted. I've had so much going on that I haven't been able to get it together to put up anything decent......or indecent for that matter *giggling*

So I thought I'd share a little of one of the things taking up my time .

My house is about 20 years old and I've lived here almost five years. When we moved in we did some immediate and very necessary painting. And we've been gradually doing things here and there--like adding a kick ass deck ---but over the last few weeks we've had a rush of remodeling activity.

Here's what my old kitchen countertops looked like---

I took these the morning of the install. This is how it looked when I left....

And this is how it looked when I got home----it's gorgeous!!! The granite is called Uba Tuba after the town in Brazil close to where it is quarried. I personally selected the slabs.

And here it is all put back together. I wanted to lose the 'rail' around the top of the cabinets but that's been left on the 'waiting list'. I am going to find new canisters as the white ceramic ones just don't cut it anymore.

And if you look just above my WOOOOO lady you'll see the brushed nickel pulls that I am going to use. Yup one of today's projects---changing out the 55--yes I said 55 --pulls. And if you look really closely at the paint card just to the lady's left you'll see a preview of the next part of the project---painting between the counter and the cabinets.

I will say that it's very much worth the effort. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and there is such a dramatic difference in how it feels in there now. Maybe it's because it's all stone and wood---all natural---that makes it seem cozier. The stone is mesmerizing to me----I love touching it. Yeah I know babies---have fun with it.

Manic Monday Carnival

Hey y'all

It's a Manic Monday Carnival at Mo's main site It's A Blog Eat Blog World. Mo is the founder and leader extraordinaire of the Manic Monday meme. Mo picks and posts a theme word on Friday so that the Manic Monday Minions --of which I am one--can share their take on the theme. It's a great meme because it's very diverse and you can do ANYTHING.

Mo has gathered an awesome sampling of submissions from the last year today at his site. Do yourself a huge favor and drop by..it will be worth your time.

I, like the exquisite and accomplished procrastinator that I am, forgot to email my submission until 10:30 or so last night. Well of course that was too late. So I thought I'd put the links to a some of my good ones here and encourage y'all to go see the actual carnival at Mo's.

One of my favorite MM posts was the one for the theme word 'deal'. Now a lot of folks might have thought I'd do something about Texas Hold 'Em Poker as I am an avid player. However my Manic Monday entitled 'The Deal' talks about how I was made part of a wonderful family called the Soul Patrol.

Because the Manic Monday meme is so open you can really have fun with it depending on your whim or the amount of time you don't have to get a post up. *giggling* I wrote this little prose poem on the theme 'friend'.

Believe it or not I used to actually 'write'. My novel in progress(snarf) is based on the character I created in this flash fiction post for the theme 'chip' and continued here for the theme branch and finally here for the theme 'snap'.

And my first few Manic Monday posts were all episodes of one story that I finished and posted to my writing blog in September. I guess most folks didn't notice cause it's on the private blog and only a couple of folks have commented. So here it is again --the complete Perverse Reverse albeit a rough draft. All comments are welcome as I still intend to polish it up and see what I can do with it. And if you'd like an invite to the writing blog---not that there's much to see there right now--please drop me a line in email.

I hope y'all enjoy!

It's Crying Time Again

Hey y'all

Does anyone really believe there's no crying in politics??

Tonight I finally get political on my BlogTalkRadio show TurnbabyTalks at 8 PM ET. I'll be joined by my special guest Matt-man of Bagwine Ruminations. Actually Matty is quite qualified to discuss politics having successfully managed several local political campaigns and worked as a lobbyist and Political Director for Service Employees International Union in Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. And he routinely puts his special spin on the crazy way we determine those who spend our money and determine so many important things in our lives. We'll certainly touch on the events of this past week and the ever changing carnival that this two year campaign to lead this country. Bring your community snot rags!!

YOU can join tonight at 8 us by clicking the lovely button at the top of this post---is it just me or does it look like Matty's trying to look up her skirt? *giggling* You can participate in the live chat that will be up and running before the show. You can CALL IN at 646-716-8102 and add your two cents worth. If you can't make it at 8 you can always listen to any archived show by clicking the player in my sidebar.

And remember to go back and give me a rating please!!

Right before my show you should catch Mr. Fabulous at 7 PM on his BTR show Pointless Drivel Live as he takes on a wild Canadian in Gwen from Sasketchewan. Bring your American-Canadian translator and join in the fun!

Speaking of Fabby--this post of his this week got me started on this topic --so you can blame him ;-) And I have to say the title of his post is brilliant!!

Hope to see y'all later.

New Haiku Redux

Hey y'all

If I wasn't such a geek this post would have been finished much earlier. However I invited and you all certainly delivered with some clever, funny, lovely and hot haiku. So the geek in me is determined to reward that effort with an all haiku response to each. Mine are in bold.

Sweet Evil Things

Hey y'all

Tonight at 9 PM ET on BlogTalkRadio on Doctor Blogstein's Radio Happy Hour Collette McLafferty, the lead singer of edibleRed, will stop by to fill everyone in on the exciting year ahead for this RAWKING New York band.

If you are a regular listener of my BTR show, TurnbabyTalks, you'll recognize the edibleRed song 'Sugar and Spring' as my start up music. I LURVE them--I bought the Cd and it's been in continuous play in my FX as well as on all the puters. If you go to their MySpace you can hear four cuts.

I did a post about them as a "Friday Find" that you can read here.

Be sure to watch the "Cash Cab" video--who doesn't love trivia!!

And this clip gives you some hint of how awesome they've got to be in concert--please come South!!!

I hope y'all can tune in tonight. I promised Doc I won't be all 'fan girly' on the show so I guess I'll just have to go

New Haiku

Hey y'all

Happy New Year!

Katherine tagged me for a sunrise picture so I thought I'd start the new year with this lovely shot I took at Myrtle Beach this fall.

Tomorrow I'll post about my great time with Bond and his lovely lady. I do believe there are photos. *giggling*

I wanted this first post to be haiku---I just love doing it and I love interacting with y'all. So I decided to start off the new year with new haiku.

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry. You have three lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Within those 17 syllables the idea is to paint a clear picture designed to arouse a distinct emotion and suggest spiritual insight--

And our theme is 'new'---new beginnings, a fresh start, the new year, a new love.....anything new.

As always here are a few to start us off

A tender first kiss
Takes your breath away and then
takes you higher still

The new year brings change;
dreams become reality
life begins anew

Discovering joy
in the new and treasuring
each thrilling feeling

Okay babies--it's your turn.
