Really?

Hey y'all

I recently received one of those ubiquitous email 'forwards' that was titled like this

"Fw: There goes the neighborhood... this does not reflect personal views!!!"

And the body of the email contained this Photoshopped piece of crap

And I looked back at the title of the email and thought wow--really?

How can forwarding this as a 'joke' NOT reflect the sender's 'personal views'?

I am careful with things I forward precisely because it DOES reflect my personal views .

And in case you were wondering--the person who sent this is not a blogger and is from New England and is generally pretty sweet.

I was taken aback by this. What do you think?

Smooches and thoughtful gropes babies.

I think they are racists. I feel sorry for them and their hate filled hearts.

I get shit like that from my family members all of the time. I usually reply to all and say that I'm surprised and disappointed that they are a racist.

I've been getting a few of those too. It just makes me sick that humans act this way.

It's like those statements that begin "Now I'm not a racist, but..." and then end with a burning cross. It's funny how ignorant some people can be about their own prejudices. The only color that matters is yellow, and only then because Asian women are totally hot.

I cannot tell you how many things like this I get from people I work with. Scary.

Yeah... I got one like that, the presidential limo had tricked out wheels.

Sad...

i think it is both racist and ignorant.

sorry, especially if this person is a friend.

but...inappropriate on a lot of levels.

I go with Grant on this one. Hum... Not about the hot Asian chicks but the "I'm not a racist but..." people. If Hillary won, would we have seen melons instead? Stereotyping... It is racist. My rule? I'll go with it only if I am willing to show it to the person or group that I am aiming at. But then, I'll pretty much show anything to people no matter who they are. This one? I don't find it funny.

its the same as the ones from the other side.
The ones with Palin naked and such.
The folks probably mean nothing by it I get them too but I like you are careful what I forward.

Tough to read to much into that and not read sexism into the other side, ageism whateverthefuckism.

The United States of the Offended, thats what bothers me.
Weakness in folks not to be able to laugh at themselves.
Everybody is offended by something, I guess I should have been offended by the clinging to their guns and religion slander spewed in obvious racism and elitism from Obama, but alas I was not, I'm better and bigger and far to smart than to be offended by idiots.
Hell come to think of it I don't know that I have ever been offended!

I vote ignorant and unaware of how damaging this type of stereotyping can be.

But who the heck doesn't like watermelons? ;)

Nah, I think it's a racist joke best not forwarded.

It is racist and disgusting.

If Hillary won, would we have seen melons instead?

I certainly don't want to see Hillary's melons. Ewww, the thought makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

if it was a close friend? i'd reply with a "umm... you may not realize this but by forwarding that, you are behaving in a racist manner...". if not a close friend? this would have a dramatic negative affect on my opinion of the person... probably ignorant, but nonetheless, racist...

They need to realize that Archie Bunker died years ago. It's time to move into the 21st Century.

I think that if you forward something like that, you're not really offended. I mean, why send something so freaking awful if it doesn't reflect some "personal views".

I know we are a nation easily offended but some things are just not cool. I think it's okay to be offended by racism...geez.

"Doesn't reflect personal views." - Niiiiiice. I would have to reply, "Obviously, it does reflect your personal views since you forwarded it. If it didn't reflect what you feel, you would have deleted it. Therefore, my personal view is that you're a racist POS that will be promptly deleted from my e-mail list. Kthnxbi!"

People are unbelievable.

of course what people forward reflects on them. for them to think it doesn't is silly.

Did she also send you e-mails about Obama being the Antichrist? I got a lot of those too.

I don't mind humor that pokes fun at our differences, but that

1. Wasn't even funny
2. Was kind of stupid

I think it's tasteless.

ROFLMAO at Gingersnaps.

I rarely forward anything. Why? Because I think forwarding what I consider to be junk email reflects on me. This includes the "forward this or you'll die in three minutes", or "if you forward this the best thing ever in the world will happen to you". People have lost their common sense.

As for this particular email? I feel bad for both the creator's and the forwarder's ignorance.

People just don't think. And I doubt this will be the last time we see some stereotype like this. Then again, I saw a black man on a Comedy Central commercial joke about the new White House pet being a pit bull.

I'm very sensitive to racial jokes because my son is part black and I was kicked out of my family for several years because of it. I hear this a lot "I have nothing against black people, but..."

I had to think for a moment before I "got" what that pic was driving at. When I did get it, I was saddened by it. Some people are just so petty and ignorant, it's not funny. How can this NOT reflect on your beliefs? Sheesh.

I wouldn't forward that email. But, from a humor perspective, should our President be treated differently because he is an African-American (part)?

Jade said...

I think I'm sick of these. I'm all for humor, especially at the expense of a politician, but I've yet to hear/see any joke about Obama that isn't only about race.

Meribah said...

Turn? The puppy's got an award for yuh. come get! :)

People who forward things like this with the prelude, "Not personal feelings" but do so anyhow HAVE those feelings buried.

Pull 'em up on IM and see if talking can get you somewhere with the person. If not, hope like hell it was just a joke, because this isn't a good thing.

BlondeBlogger said...

Oh wow. That photo made me really sad. There's nothing "funny" about racism, IMO.

whall said...

Yeah, not funny. Or, I should say, about as funny as any of the 'jokes' aimed at McCain/Palin.
