As noted here before I'm a big fan of The Urban Dictionary. I subscribe to the word of the day which drops a new urban slang term complete with user definition into my mailbox. This was Friday's word.

March 21, 2008: freak flag
A characteristic, mannerism, or appearance of a person, either subtle
or overt, which implies unique, eccentric, creative, adventurous or
unconventional thinking.
or overt, which implies unique, eccentric, creative, adventurous or
unconventional thinking.
David Crosby refers to long hair as a freak flag in his song Almost Cut
My Hair. "I feel like letting my freak flag fly."
Movie Character Ben compliments Meredith in The Family Stone, "You have
a freak flag...you just don't fly it."
I love that line---considering over the past week I've feel that I've raised my freak flag up just a little higher with my participation in Mr. Fabulous' Cleavage Contest and my first foray into Half Nekkid Thursdays. I also did a guest post for Kyra last Thursday that was a little steamy. Of course it's not the first time I've shared some words of passion and pleasure here.
When I was younger I was like a lot of girls--trying to fit into an image someone else ascribed for me and rather miserable about it. I'll flesh that out another day. Now I relish being different--it's wonderful to be myself ---an intelligent, sexy, geeky, passionate, naughty dork.
Quite honestly I think the mere existence of my blog is a giant freak flag. It's not the weirdest or funniest or steamiest blog out there but that's not the point. It's my weird--my funny-- my steamy ---my own little take on the world and a place I get to share how I see things through my unique filters.
I feel sorry for the folks who just can't let themselves accept what and who they really are. You see it blow up in their faces time and again. You see it in the frantic and tortured behaviors and soulless eyes of people who just keep it bottled up and hidden away so that they will appear always and ever 'normal'.
So yeah--I'm flying my freak flag proudly babies. How about you?
Smooches and some freaky little gropes*giggling*

Ooh, I LIKE freaky little gropes!
I should make up a little freak flag graphic. If I was the sort of person who could do that. A different person, I mean.
My entire post today is a freak flag.
My fiance and I have always said we are the black sheep of the family, nobody gets us. We definitely have our freak flags up regularly.
I fly my freak flag every day.
My mother really wishes I would put my freak flag away.
Fabby: Purrrr on the freaky gropes! I'm a little 'graphically' challenged for a geek--sad isn't it ;-)
Trav: And a very debonaire one at that! Smooch
Robin: Screw em---isn't it cool you found someone in your fiance who understands!
Avitable: Yes you do sugar and today it needs a pedicure!
Ginormous: LOL My mother reads my blog. When she told my sister about it she said "Sometimes she's a little naughty on there" !!
Please keep your freak flag waving sugar.
Oh hells yeah, that is the best part of us. We're total freaks who appreciate the freakiness in each other!
Robin: YESSSS!!! That's awesome!
Our wedding is going to be one big freak flag event :D
I've always been just a bit different...and i got used to that early on.
Both my girls went thru a time where they had to come to grips with not being "like the other girls" while that seems great in retrospect...it was a tough time for each of them.
(it was more difficult to deal with me not being like all the other Mommys....laughing....laughing...)
so yeah....the freak flag....long may it wave....
Fly that freak flag high! It's one of the things we love about you.
I guess I'm going to have to either drag my freak flag out of retirement, trade it in on a new one, or just add a new one to the collection.
As much as a freak-flag as I can get with mom and dad reading...well...
Sometimes I do wish they did not know about The Couch...but they do, so i keep it semi-tame.
I have always been the different one in my family....the long hair...the insistence to be different...hell, my great-aunt used to send me birthday cards that said there would be masses said in my honor to help make me a better person!
HOW'S THAT for a freak flag flyin'?
Robin: With cupcakes!
katherine: I'm so glad i grew into my 'different'--it's so much more interesting.
Lizza: Thank you sugar--you are my inspiration you know! Smooch
DrillerAA: There's always room for one more;-)
Bond: Your parents are of a different generation so I understand although you've had some freaky stuff on there. With my mom--I figure if she doesn't know by now she'll never know.
Smooch
I get shit routinely for thinking differently and actually owning up to it...
And to top it off for fucks sake, I'm a people person who works with damn engineers!
I am me... love it, or fuck you!
OOOH that felt damned good!
Thanks!
GROPE GROPE you sexy dork you!
No...my dad vetoed the cupcakes :( But I still have a lot of other things such as Chucks and Dr. Seuss.
Angelbaby: I love you for being you!!
Smooch
Robin: Well some is better than none. What about the groom's cake?
Only one cake. The main tiered cake is yellow cake with raspberry filling, then there is a sheet cake that is carrot cake w/cream cheese frosting.
I'm not normal. I never was normal. Heck, I don't even know what normal is! So, yes, the puppy definitely lets her freak flag fly! :P
I have several freak flags!
Robin: Are you registered at our favorite cupcake bakery? he couldn't make you turn down wedding presents ;-)
Meribah: Of course your aren't puppy!! We LOVE you just the way you are!
Beckeye: Yes you do suigar and at least one has "GLENN" written on it!Or is that "JOHN"
What cupcake bakery?
I read the story at work... made me blush! (ok it didn't really... but would have if anyone had started reading over my shoulder. I was enjoying it.)
Nothing wrong with weird.

Robin: Pretty much any bakery does cupcakes---find one you like and register there---make sure that they know to have the 'gifts' delivered to the reception.*giggle*
TC: Hee hee--we love weird--that's what makes us fun and interesting. Glad you liked it sugar.
Hello: WOOOOOOOO "That fucker flies"" I LOVE It!!
I like how you think...
Robin: Thank you sugar ;-)
It's about being comfortable in your skin, and for many women it doesn't come until "later in life" (say, for example, after 40). Sadly, for some women, it never comes.
I'm love myself, so long may my freak flag fly!
