Dona Nobis Pacem

I could not figure out how to get this "signed" but I wanted it on my blog. Mimi Writes who you can find at http://mimiwrites.blogspot.com had this nifty idea.

I think it's a brilliant and particularly fitting idea as we in the US exercise our right and responsibility to vote today. It is rainy and gray here but I stood in line for over an hour with the DH to vote . The line never got any shorter. Even though it was difficult for all of us to lose that much time out of a hectic day it's so important. To have peace---real peace---we have got to bring it from the ground up. We all have to believe it is possible. And exercising your right and responsiblity to vote is a very necessary part of that process.

There are so many great songs and some of the best are already out there but to add to the rest

Peace Train

by Cat Stevens

Now I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train

Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living, it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer, soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

And this ... can always hear Marvin signing it....

What's Goin On

Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today - Ya

Father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what's going on
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Ah, what's going on

In the mean time
Right on, baby
Right on
Right on

Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
Oh

Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Tell me what's going on
I'll tell you what's going on - Uh
Right on baby
Right on baby

And while I was surfing around I came across this sight. http://www.bluesforpeace.com/ Seems very appropos.

Outstanding song choices.

Peace is possible if we exercise our civil rights and take seriously our civic duties.
